Your first full day of the Dynasties of Vietnam Tour begins with the Vietnam National Historical Museum, a full day of wonderful exhibits, time to get to know your group, and a documentary film on the museum’s history!

Tuesday takes you back in time to the early history of Vietnam as more in depth, behind the scenes tours and learning sessions at the Vietnam National Historical Museum display its history of Vietnamese feudalism!

The next stop: The Dynasties of Vietnam Tour takes you to Pong Chau, the formal capital city!

Pong Chau plays host to the fascinating Hung King Museum, a doorway to traditions like fairy stories of the culture and history of Vietnam!

Back in the Hanoi District for Day 5, encounter an authentic An Duong Vuong Temple in the Co Loa Capital and the Co Loa Citadel, which includes learning about Vietnamese architecture, history, and weapons usage (we’ll even let you use an authentic ancient crossbow and make a delicious Bong Cake!).

Day 6 of the Dynasties of Vietnam Tour is a very rare treat indeed: Secret Underground Tunnels from the Ngo Dynasty fill the stores of the Vietnam National Historical Museum, and YOU get to examine the artifacts up close and personal before an afternoon’s trip to the Thang Long Royal Citadel!

The former capital city of Hoa Lu is next on the itinerary, including a visit to the awe-striking Dinh Le Temple before a bike ride to the Tam Coc Canals and an exploration opportunity down the misty Bich Dong Cave!

Ho, another former capital city, is the host for Day 8 of the Dynasties of Vietnam Tour, more opportunity to ride bikes around the magnificent ruins and amazing architecture of the once grand city of Ho!

On Monday, experience the Last Feudal Dynasty in Vietnam History as a visit to the Vietnam National Historical Museum takes you behind the scenes of the Nguyen Dynasty of the 19th and 20th Century! Afternoon activities include assisting museum staff in the discovery room and learning about artifact reconstruction!

Day 10 of the Dynasties of Vietnam Tour reveals the Nguyen Dynasty’s Royal Treasures: Examine these rare artifacts and present about your favorites to the group before another fascinating afternoon of artifact reconstruction and discovery!

After taking a train to Hue City, explore the Imperial Citadel & King Tombs! With 13 Kings in the Nguyen Dynasty, there is plenty to learn about before a scenic boat ride down the Perfume River!

Day 12 of the Dynasties of Vietnam Tour includes more exploration opportunities in the fascinating Hue City, a place that is sure to capture your attention with its natural beauty, history, and ancient architecture! We can’t fit everything into one day here, so you’ll stay in the relaxing Mondial Hotel!

Friday is another great chance to get your legs moving on an easy bike ride to the Thanh Toan Ancient Bridge! Afternoon village visits show you beautiful countryside and unique cultures (not to mention plenty of tasty food!).

An overnight train ride back to Hanoi puts you back in time for free exploration in your last day in the city before a delicious Graduation Dinner at the Vietnam National History Museum!

  • DAY 2: Monday - Explore Vietnam History & Culture

    Morning: Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Meet with your guide and walk from the hotel to the VNHM. Watch documentary film on the museum’s formation history, architecture and items/artifacts on display at the VNHM.

    * Exchange general information about the training course.

    Afternoon: Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Visit the VNHM with your guide.

    MEALS: Breakfast only.

    Accommodation: Hanoi Boutique Hotel.

  • DAY 3: Tuesday - Back to Early Time of Vietnam History

    Morning: Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Visit VNHM & its display of Vietnamese first feudal kingdoms and their capitals.

    * Teacher will talk about Vietnam’s early formation, starting with the oldest capitals of Phong Chau and Co Loa.

    * Discuss and answer questions from students after the lecture.

    Afternoon: Move from Hanoi to Phong Chau – formal Capital (Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province)

    * Students will learn how to cook “Chung” cake, a traditional cake in our Traditional New Year. This cake was created by a son of the first Hung King. He passed the examination of the King and became the 2nd king in Vietnam history by creating to this cake.

    * Meet a Vietname Artisan, a famous singer of Xoan folksongs at a pagoda of the village

    MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

    Accommodation: Local Guesthouse in Phu Tho Province.

  • DAY 4: Wednesday - Back to Early Time of Vietnam History

    Morning: Phong Chau district, Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province

    * Visit Hung King Temple, learn about the first capital of Vietnam, Hung King Museum and traditional festivals, fairy stories reflecting customs, culture and tradition of Viet people.

    Afternoon: Move from Phong Chau to Hanoi

    MEALS: Breakfast & Lunch at Local Restaurant.

    Accommodation: Hanoi Boutique Hotel.

  • DAY 5: Thursday - Co Loa Capital

    Morning: Co Loa Capital, Dong Anh District, Hanoi City

    * Transfer to Co Loa Capital, visit An Duong Vuong temple, My Chau pricess temple, Jade Well etc.

    * Learn about the history of Co Loa capital and the country formation history during the An Duong Vuong and Ngo Quyen King dynasty.

    * Learn about the history of building and protecting a country of Vietnamese people in early time.

    Afternoon: Co Loa Capital, Dong Anh District, Hanoi City

    * Experience using crossbow, a kind of weapon created during this time in history.

    * Making Bong cake, a kind of traditional cake of local people in this area.

    * Learn about the technique in building Co Loa citadel and hands-on experience in building the citadel.

    MEALS: Breakfast at hotel, Lunch at Local Restaurant.

  • DAY 6: Friday - Discover Secret from the Underground

    Morning: Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Gather at VNHM and learn about Vietnam history from the century X – XIV under the dynasty of Ngo and Tran, with focus on the important role of Hoa Lu Capital (Ninh Binh), Thang Long Capital (Hanoi) and Tay Do Capital (Thanh Hoa province) and airtifacts founded from the underground.

    * Team work on the subject of Hoa Lu Capital (Ninh Binh), Thang Long Capital (Hanoi) and Tay Do Capital (Thanh Hoa province), handicraft villages and special persons in Vietnam feudal dynasty history.

    Afternoon: Thang Long Royal Citadel

    * Visit Thang Long Royal Citadel, study about its history, architecture, decoration etc.

    * Visit underground display area D67 and special relics

    MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

    Accommodation: Hanoi Boutique Hotel.

  • DAY 7: Saturday - Hoa Lu - Former Capital

    Morning: Move from Hanoi to Ninh Binh Provice (90km = 2 hours)

    * Visit Hoa Lu former capital, Dinh Le Temple.

    * Bike from there to Tam Coc.

    Afternoon: Tam Coc Canals & Bich Dong Cave

    * 2 hours boat trip on Tam Coc Canals.

    * Visit Bich Dong Cave.

    * Mountains by bicycle.

    MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

    Accommodation: Tam Coc Ricefield Resort in Ninh Binh.

  • DAY 8: Sunday - Ho Former Capital

    Morning: Move to Ho Capital in Thanh Hoa

    * Visit Ho formal capital in Thanh Hoa Province.

    * Discover this capital by bicycle.

    Afternoon: 

    * Travel back to Hanoi for overnight.

    MEALS: Lunch.

    Accommodation: Hanoi Boutique Hotel.

  • DAY 9: Monday - The Last Feudal Dynasty in Vietnam History

     

    Morning: Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Visit VNHM, focus on Nguyen Dynasty from 19th – 20th century, study about its system of government, Hue royal citadel, architecture, Dai Nam (fomer name of Vietnam) map, and other artifacts collections.

    * Lectures about Nguyen dynasty at class with teacher.

    Afternoon: Team work at Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Students will be divided into two teams:

    – Team 1: Support daily work at “discovery room”.

    – Team 2: The Museum’s preservation experts share information and learn to reconstruct artifacts at the museum.

    MEALS: Breakfast.

    Accommodation: Hanoi Boutique Hotel.

  • DAY 10: Tuesday - Nguyen’s Royal Treasures

    Morning: Vietnam National Historical Museum (VNHM)

    * Study about Nguyen’s royal treasures collections at VNHM including worship items, daily life items, power symbol items etc.

    * Students make a presentation about one of the items in the collections which is the most impressive to him/her.

    Afternoon: Volunteer & Teamwork at the Museum

    * Students will be divided into two teams:

    – Team 1: Support daily work at “discovery room”.

    – Team 2: The Museum’s preservation experts share information and learn to reconstruct artifacts at the museum.

    Evening: Train to Hue

    * Transfer to railway station. Take a night train to Hue.

    MEALS: Breakfast.

    Accommodation: Overnight on the train.

  • DAY 11: Wednesday - Hue City, Imperial Citadel & King Tombs

    Morning: Arrive in Hue Early Morning

    * Transfer to local restaurant for breakfast.

    * Visit the Imperial Citadel and learn about 13 kings of Nguyen dynasty in Vietnam

    Afternoon: Thien Mu Pagoda & Tu Hieu Pagoda

    * Boat trip along Perfume River To Thien Mu Pagoda.

    * Visit Thien Mu Pagoda and learn about its history.

    * Visit Tu Hieu Pagoda, located in a hidden pine hill where you will see graves of eunuchs in Nguyen Dynasty and learn of their stories.

    MEALS: Breakfast.

  • DAY 12: Thursday - Hue City, Imperial Citadel & King Tombs

    Morning: Perfume River & King Ming Mang

    * Visit the tomb of King Ming Mang, upstream of Perfume River.

    * Visit tomb of King Tu Duc.

    Afternoon: Tombs Architecture & the Fengshui Theory

    * Visit tomb of King Khai Dinh.

    * Learn about the tombs’ architecture, building process stories and fengshui theory.

    MEALS: Breakfast.

    Accommodation: Mondial Hotel.

  • DAY 13: Friday - Thanh Toan Ancient Bridge

    Morning: By Bicycle

    * Ride a bicycle from hotel to Thanh Toan Ancient Bridge.

    Afternoon: Visit Villages

    * Visit country side and nearby villages.

    Evening: Overnight on the train back to Hanoi

    * Transfer to railway station.

    MEALS: Breakfast.

    Accommodation: Overnight on the train.

  • DAY 14: Saturday - Graduation Dinner

    Morning: Arrive in Hanoi early morning

    * Transfer to local beef noodle restaurant for breakfast.

    * Transfer to hotel.

    Afternoon: Free Time

    Evening: Graduation Dinner

    * 6pm – Graduation Dinner at the Vietnam National History Museum!

    * Teachers share their comments on essays and students can talk about the course.

    * Receive Graduation Certificate!

    Transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for departure flight.

Both of these items depend on your own background – i.e. What passport are you travelling on? What vaccinations you have had previously? Yes! While we welcome groups, families, couples and friends, our Learning Tours are also designed with individual travelers in mind. You’ll be part of a larger group which is made up of other intrepid travelers from all over the world. This is a great way to meet like-minded people and we’re sure you will make a few long-lasting friendships.

On most tours the minimum number of participants is 2 and maximum is 12. Group sizes vary at different times of the year, but generally speaking we will do our best to ensure there is at least 4 participants on each tour where possible.

In most cases, yes! There are some instances where tour participants will travel by foot, like walking a short distance between your accommodation and a learning or activity center for example, but for everything else, the transport is all arranged for you!

As mentioned above, flights, visas, insurance and vaccinations are not included – so these costs are additional to the listed tour price. In addition, you should consider the following:

  • Airport taxes and entry/departure fees (if not included in your flight ticket)
  • Additional food, drinks and snacks
  • Money for optional activities /excursions (where available)
  • Personal spending money (think souvenirs!)

The amount of additional money you may need is impossible for us to judge, and really does depend on your own spending habits, but if you have any questions about this, or want some help working out your budget, just let us know.

In most cases, no. Breakfast is often included at your accommodation, but lunches and dinners will be subject to the tour itinerary. As such, some are included, some are not, but this does of course provide a wonderful opportunity to try out the local cuisine for yourself.

Yes. It has become fairly common for tour participants to request special dietary provisions, so in most cases this can easily be catered for. If you have concerns about this though, let us know and we can discuss it with complete confidentiality.

Yes, absolutely! Free time is an important part of every tour. There is nothing more frustrating than having to follow a strict and unforgiving itinerary. Where possible, you will have free time to explore, partake in some of the local attractions and activities, or simply relax – it’s up to you!

Once you have completed the booking form you can secure your spot by paying a deposit of US$500. This is part of the total tour price and will be deducted from your final invoice. The balance needs to be paid 6 weeks prior to your tour start date. Don’t worry – we will send you a reminder when that time comes and an invoice which you can simply click and pay.
